In the northern part of India, you will find the beautiful city of Jhansi. It is a famous tourist destination with a lot of historical sites and natural landscapes.

Jhansi is a city in Uttar Pradesh, a state located at the northern part of India. It is a major rail junction and a major road. It is the administrative seat of Jhansi Division and the Jhansi District. It is originally a walled city which grew up and crowned near a rock. Below are some other facts and information about the city of Jhansi that may come in handy especially when you plan to visit this city:

When it comes to the history of Jhansi, during the nineteenth century, Jhansi was under the ruling of the dynasty of Rajput Chandela of Khajuraho. The architectural remains and artificial reservoirs probably date back to this time. The Khangars succeeded the Chandelas. They built a nearby fort named Karar. In the fourteenth century, the Bundelas went in Jhansi, coming from the Vindhya Range plains. They spread themselves along the region of Bundelkland which later on bore their name.

Jhansi’s fortress was built by Orchha state’s ruler back in 1610. Legend says that the king of Orchha has seen a shadow on a far mound. This ruler later on called it Jhansi, meaning “a kind of shadow.” It is where Jhansi got its name.

Jhansi is ranked as the 77th in terms of population. This is in reference to the 2001 census that recorded a total of 504,292 people. 249,592 were males and the other 220,620 were females.

About the geography and climate of Jhansi, the city of Jhansi is located at twenty five point four North and seventy eight point five east. It has an elevation average of two hundred eighty four meters or nine hundred thirty five feet. It is located in central India’s plateau which is composed of mainly rocks having minerals underneath it.

The city also has a natural slope in the Northern part as it lies Southwest on the border of the vast plains of Tarai in Uttar Pradesh. It is in the South where the elevation rises. The land is very suitable for planting citrus species of fruits. It is also ideal for planting crops like oilseeds, pulses, peas and wheat. The city relies on heavy monsoon rains to support their irrigation.

Jhansi also experiences extreme temperatures. It is in October when the winter here begins together with the Southwest Monsoon retreat and peaks in the middle of December. Spring arrives at the end of February. Summer begins in April where the temperature rises up to forty seven degrees, especially in the month of May. Rainy season starts on the third week of June and monsoon rains become weak in the month of September.

Jhansi has its fair share of beautiful natural attractions. The bodies of water are very refreshing, like the Betwa River. You must also see Lake of Barua Sagar. It is good to go beaching in Barua, or enjoy the view of waterfalls.

Jhansi is mainly Hindu, and houses some temples and shrines. One of the more popular shrines is Ganesh Mandir. This shrine is very important to the locals because of its history.

The Jhansi Fort dates back to 1613. It once served as a strategic hideout of the old Indian rules during the time of war. Now it stands a magnificent structure that reflects bravery of the Indian people.

Maha Lakshmi Temple dates back to the 18th century. It was built in honor of the goddess Mahalakshmi. Meanwhile, Rani Mahal was formerly a palace. It now serves a museum holding the important artifacts of the city.
